The Altmühltal is known for wonderful biking on the banks of the winding and romantic river Altmühl. You cycle through largely intact nature with white cliffs, green pastures and wetlands. For a stop in picturesque places you are welcome in friendly cafes and restaurants. Enjoy regional specialties, such as the Altmühltaler lamb, fresh trout or savory dishes with wild herbs.
Arrival from Friday to Monday from April to October.

Day 1: Arrival in Rothenburg
Hand out of RENTAL BIKES and information material. Private parking space (unguarded).

Day 2: Rothenburg - Ansbach (Cycling 54 km / 34 miles)
Past the powerful Castle Colmberg to Ansbach. Overnight in a 3***Hotel.

Day 3: Ansbach - Wettelsheim (Cycling 61 km / 38 miles)
To the medieval town Gunzenhausen, the Lake Altmühlsee and through the now narrower Altmühl Valley to the Karlsgraben and your destination for the day.

Day 4: Wettelsheim - Eichstätt (Cycling 50 km / 31 miles)
Past Treuchtlingen through the silent, charming valley of the nature reserve Altmühl passing the "Twelve Apostle Rock" into the bishop town Eichstätt.

Day 5: Eichstätt - Beilngries (Cycling 44 km / 28 miles)
Passing Pfünz with a Roman castle you cycle to Kinding or Beilngries.

Day 6: Beilngries - Essing/Kelheim (Cycling 42/51 km / 26/32 miles)
From Dietfurt the valley gets busier; the Main-Danube-Canal with its ships mark this part. Past Riedenburg to Essing or Kelheim and to the mouth of the Danube. Optionally Danube ship trip to the Abbey Weltenburg (approx. every hour: ? 9,- on the spot; roundtrip).

Day 7: Essing/Kelheim - Regensburg (Cycling 47/38 km / 29/24 miles)
Past Bad Abbach you reach Regensburg. Guided tour through the "Reichstagssaal" and torture museum.

Day 8: End of the tour

Transfer back to Rothenburg/T. or extra nights in Rothenburg or Regensburg. Transfer of own bicycles is possible.
